Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Gas Detection

Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Gas Sensors

Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) , is a colorless gas with a strong odor. Sulfur dioxide is not combustible but it is considered an extremely toxic gas. When combined with water, sulfur dioxide becomes sulfuric acid which is highly corrosive and cause chemical burns. It is important to monitor sulfur dioxide levels for two main reasons: because industrial buildings such as power plants emit large amounts of sulfur dioxide and sulfur dioxide is a highly reactive gas. Sulfur dioxide is heavier than air and PemTech uses electromechanical technology to detect it. OSHA designated the PEL for sulfur dioxide to be only 5 ppm, because being exposed to even small amounts for a short period can be extremely dangerous.

Count on PemTech’s sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas monitors to keep your facility and employees safe and up to regulation standards. They even come with a one year warranty.

PEL – A Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) is the maximum amount or concentration of a chemical that a worker may be exposed to under OSHA regulations.

STEL – A Short-Term Exposure Limit (STEL) is the acceptable average exposure over a short period of time, usually 15 minutes as long as the time-weighted average is not exceeded. STEL is a term used in occupational health, industrial hygiene and toxicology.
TWATime Weighted Averages are an average value of exposure over the course of an 8 hour work shift.
